Tomato-lovers everywhere are tipping their caps to John Swenson, who developed this cross of Antique Roman and Banana Legs. Orange-red, 5" long fruits are a speckled paste-type, marked by irregular yellow stripes. Meaty fruits have hearty, real tomato flavor and almost no seeds.

Speckled Roman
Jan 11, 2024  |  By Carole Williams
I planted these a couple of times. The taste is not bad, but the well rooted blossom end rot gene is. No matter how much calcium you put in your soil, you will have blossom end rot. This affects yield and shelf life. The meat inside is also mushy. No room for this Roman.

Big and meaty
Feb 5, 2024  |  By Lynne B Wilson
Speckled Roman is one of my very favorite tomatoes. I have grown them several summers. I honestly don't recall problems with end rot any greater than my other tomatoes. I have never purchased seeds from this company, but as for the tomato itself, I give it a higher rating. It is meaty and BIG.

Great Deck Tomatoes
Feb 14, 2024  |  By James Ross-Robertson
Of all the tomatoes I have grown on my deck over the past 30 plus years these were by far the best tasting ever! Very meaty and a very sweet flavor. I would highly recommend them.
