Large beefsteak fruits are the color of port wine with metallic green stripes and weigh 8 to 12 oz. Its excellent sweet flavor was put to the test against Cherokee Purple in farmers markets taste tests and was preferred every time.

Very happy with this one. The green streaking looks a bit iridescent so it is quite a standout when whole, though not so much when sliced. It was the earliest tomato to ripen in my garden, and is still going well into August. When you let ripen fully on the vine, it has a good flavor, and most of the fruits are a large size, though many are multi-lobed rather than the basic oval shown in the photo. For such a decorative and interesting fruit, I am happy with the flavor and amount of fruit. I would give 5 stars but the vines seems to lack a little resilience, bending sharply over the supports to stunt any fruit growing on the ends. Also, unlike my other tomatoes, these vines seem to get a lot of dead leaves in the interior, making it hard to see the fruit inside. They almost seemed to do better before I staked them, as if letting them run on the ground would be best. I would plant again, but I would stake and support them much more carefully.
