Common Carrot Problems

Common Carrot Problems

Insects

In areas where they are a pest, carrot flies lay eggs around the roots of carrots. Maggots hatch from the eggs and burrow into the carrots. A measure of control with wood ashes sprinkled over the soil or garlic concentrate sprayed over seedlings may help.

Nematodes: Can also be a problem, especially in sandy soils. Their control is best left to a professional.
